Happy Dance Quilting

About Quilts:

Quilting lingo can be confusing if you’ve never dealt with quilts before. Knowing the underlined terms in particular will help the ordering process.

The t-shirts you send us will be cut into 15” squares called blocks. A shirt can make up to 2 blocks from both the front and the back. If a shirt is very small we may only be able to get one block out of it.

Sashing is the fabric between blocks on certain quilts. This is an optional step and can make a t-shirt quilt look more formal or fancy. Sashing strips are about an inch and a half wide each, and thus add to both the length and width of the quilt. We offer the option to upgrade the sashing to a decorative fabric and binding for a truly special quilt.

A quilt consists of three parts:

  1. The quilt top. The blocks are pieced together with sashing (if chosen) to make the quilt top.
  2. The backing, which is the fabric on the back of the quilt. This will be a solid color fabric of your choosing. On a standard sashed quilt, it will match the sashing.
  3. The batting, which is the fluffy part in between the quilt top and backing.

Please click on the "samples" button on the toolbar to see some examples of quilts of different sizes, with and without sashing.
